(1) Every commercial/industrial business owner served by a collector shall provide or arrange for solid waste collection services consistent with the city’s municipal code and for employees, contractors, and tenants.

(2) Except for responsible parties of multifamily establishments that meet the self-hauler requirements of the city’s municipal code, responsible parties of multifamily establishments shall provide one of the following collection programs:

(a) Subscribe to the city’s three-container collection services and comply with requirements of those services as described below, except commercial businesses that meet the self-hauler requirements of this code. The city shall have the right to review the number and size of a generator’s containers and frequency of collection to evaluate adequacy of capacity provided for each type of collection service for proper separation of materials and containment of materials; and commercial businesses shall adjust their service level for their collection services as requested by the city.

(b) Except commercial businesses that meet the self-hauler requirements of this chapter, participate in the city’s organic waste collection service(s) by placing designated materials in designated containers as described below:

(i) A three-container collection service (blue container, green container, and gray container).

(ii) Generator shall place source separated green container organic waste, including food waste, in the green container; source separated recyclable materials in the blue container; and gray container waste in the gray container. Generator shall not place materials designated for the gray container into the green container or blue container.

(3) Every collector who provides any container or other equipment used for the storage of commercial/industrial solid waste or recyclable materials shall:

(a) Place and maintain on the outside of such container, bin or other equipment, in legible letters and numerals not less than one inch in height, the collector’s business name and telephone number, in a color contrasting with the background color of the container; and

(b) Provide containers on casters or with hasps or locks upon request by a commercial/industrial business owner. (Ord. 716 § 2, 2021; Ord. 532 § 1. 2002 Code § 12-9.3. Formerly 8.12.560).
